Personal Learning Supervisor
Sam Brooks has been very honored to work for the Putnam County VITAL (Virtual Instruction to Accentuate Learning) program for the past 7 years. Brooks first assignment was as the Onsite Facilitator for Online Learning at Upperman High School. He then moved into a leadership role as Personal Learning Supervisor for Putnam County Schools in Cookeville, TN. The VITAL program in Putnam County has grown to include credit advancement/credit recovery, dual enrollment, IVC (live) distance learning, K-12 personalized learning, as well as providing professional development for the 21 schools within his district. VITAL implemented a district homeschool (VITAL HomeConnect), as well as an early college dual enrollment program (VITAL Collegiate High School) beginning in the fall of 2014. VITAL has hosted over 60 site visits the past three years from districts interested in the operation of our personal learning program.
Mr Brooks and the VITAL program are very excited to offer a personal learning opportunities to Putnam County students, as well as, students around the Upper Cumberland area. Currently courses are offered for students in grades 3-12 during the regular school year and the summer months. Mr. Brooks has also been responsible for over 75+ Google Apps for Education professional development trainings for teachers in the Putnam County School district and is recognized as a Google Certified Trainer by Google. Mr. Brooks helped build a Google Training Website http://www.tinyurl.com/VITAL-Google for training the Putnam County School system. Mr. Brooks has also led numerous trainings dealing with the use and integration of the Compass Learning program in Putnam County, as well as, presenting at several national conferences for Compass Learning, Google, and the Putnam County VITAL program.
The mission of the Virtual Instruction to Accentuate Learning (VITAL) Program is to provide students with a high quality, flexible, technology-based educational opportunity that allows them to maximize their potential to serve and participate productively in 21st century society in an anytime/anywhere atmosphere.
Mr. Sam Brooks was recognized by the Center for Digital Education as a Top 30 Technologists, Transformers, and Trailblazers for 2014. Mr. Brooks was chosen for this prestigious award based on his work in K-12 education and was recognized at the National Digital Education Leadership Conversation Conference in Nashville, TN. Through the Putnam County VITAL program, the Putnam County School System was recognized in March 2015 by District Administration Magazine, as a District of Distinction via a nationwide identification/selection process. The VITAL program was also selected by the Clayton Christensen Institute as the first district for BLU (Blended Learning Universe) distinction.
